Alfred-Plantagenet Township officials announced the opening February 14 of Boisés Larocque Trail in the Larocque Woods. Located behind the Alfred village water tower, the new outdoor recreation site offers more than three kilometres of trails for cross-country skiing, two kilometres of trails dedicated to snowshoeing, and a two-kilometre walking loop trail for winter and summer hiking.
The township acquired the Larocque Woods site in 2021 and began developing it for winter and summer recreational trail use with the help of the Larocque Woods Advisory Committee. Now the committee and the Club Optimiste d’Alfred will host an official welcome event for the new recreation trail February 21, noon to 3 p.m. The nearby skating chalet will be open for anyone who needs to warm up before going out on the trail or upon returning. Participants are reminded to follow public health distancing guidelines while on the trails. There will also be a prize draw at 2:45 p.m.
