Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers responded on January 23 to a call about domestic abuse in North Stormont Township. Police allege that a 33-year-old Clarence-Rockland man struck his common-law partner and confined her to an area of the residence, the latest in a history of domestic abuse incidents.
The man was arrested on January 26 and is charged with three counts of assault, mischief under $5000 value, forcible confinement, criminal harassment, and uttering threats of death or bodily harm. His name will not be released to protect the identity of the victim, and he was scheduled to appear in Cornwall court on January 31.
