New mayor for Clarence-Rockland

New mayor for Clarence-Rockland

The Ward 2 councillor was acclaimed to the position during a special meeting of city council Friday, August 27.

The post of mayor for the city has been vacant since the death of Mayor Guy Desjardins on July 3. Michel Levert, Ward 7 councillor, has been serving as interim mayor while city administration researched the procedure to follow for appointing a new mayor to finish out Desjardin’s term.

Zanth will be sworn in as the new mayor during the September 8 council session. His Ward 2 seat will then become vacant. Both council and administration will review and decide on the procedure for filling that vacancy for the remainder of the current council mandate.
