Only 14 cases were active in the region on Monday, compared to 95 the week before. The active case count plummeted last Tuesday, after a glitch in the provincial reporting system overrepresented the number of local cases.
The active cases included 12 in Prescott-Russell, and one each in Cornwall and the United Counties of Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry. Six new cases were reported over the weekend, all of which were recorded in Prescott-Russell communities.
Medical Officer of Health Dr. Paul Roumeliotis said the positivity rate and seven day rolling average were important considerations in the calculations as well. He said figures in those metrics were also falling, but urged people to be careful as the province began to reopen.
“Enjoy the outdoors, enjoy patio dining, just make sure you adhere to the public health measures,” he said. “All of that depends on us continuing to follow the measures, such as masking.”
Vaccines
As of Monday, 139,129 vaccines had been administered in the EOHU region. Thirteen mass vaccination clinics were due to be held this week, followed by another 14 next week. Dr. Roumeliotis said the health unit was able to add another seven clinics after receiving notice of the next shipment of vaccines to the region. He said the additional doses would make it easier to provide second doses to the population over the summer.
“We want to ensure we get second doses in as quickly as possible,” he said. “It’s really the key of getting out of these restrictions and out of this pandemic.”
The region
Of the 14 cases active in the EOHU on Monday, 12 were in Prescott-Russell communities, including 6 in Clarence-Rockland, 2 in Alfred-Plantagenet, 2 in Russell, 1 in Hawkesbury, and 1 in The Nation. No cases were recorded in Casselman, Champlain, or East Hawkesbury.
