In memory of the children

The Town of Hawkesbury will fly the flags at all its municipal buildings at half-mast for 215 hours to honour the lives and memories of 215 First Nations children, whose bodies were discovered in a mass grave at the site of a former residential school in Kamloops, B.C.

Hawkesbury and many other communities within the Eastern Ontario region are located within the traditional lands of the Algonquin First Nations. The Town of Hawkesbury extends “its sincere condolences” to all First Nations people whose hearts and spirits are touched by this tragedy, and “to all residential school survivors, their families, and their communities.”
