The Eastern Ontario Health Unit (EOHU) added more places last week for the period between June 7 and June 26. As of the end of last week, almost 95,000 doses had been administered across the region, with about 50,800 more expected to be delivered by the end of June. 

Vaccine booking eligibility extended to all adults in Ontario last week, while 12-to-17-year-olds became eligible on Sunday morning at covid-19.ontario.ca/book-vaccine/. Eleven-year-olds due to turn 12 this year could call the booking number at 1-833-943-3900 for more information. 

“We’ll be at over 140,000 [by the end of June], and if you look at 140,000 over our adult population, we’ll be at over 83 percent at that time,” EOHU Medical Officer of Health Dr. Paul Roumeliotis said. “If we calculate our overall population that’s eligible, 12 and over we’ll still be at 78 percent. We’re moving very well.” 

Meanwhile, Dr. Roumeliotis clarified that a vaccine summary on the EOHU website showing 100 percent of residents in the area aged 70 and over had received at least one dose may not be accurate. He said the demographic data had been taken from the 2017 census population estimates, and the number of residents in that age range had since increased in the area. 

Dr. Roumeliotis said the number in those age ranges was closer to 94 to 95 percent. About 84.1 percent of those aged 64 to 69 had received a dose, followed by 25.8 percent of 50 to 59 year olds, 17.4 percent of 40 to 49 year olds, 17 percent of 30 to 39 year olds, 8.7 percent of 20 to 29 year olds, and 0.8 percent of those aged under 20. 

Meanwhile, those who received a first shot of AstraZeneca between March 10 and March 19 could opt to receive a second dose during the ten-week interval during the week.
