Township council reviewed a brief from Hydro 2000, the municipal electricity service provider, regarding its current cost-of-service review for maintaining the local electricity supply system for the municipality. Hydro 2000 filed its 2020 rates report with the Ontario Energy Board earlier in the year and is now working on its status review of the municipal electricity supply system, including capital expenses needed to maintain the existing infrastructure and do any future upgrades or expansions.
Hydro 2000 also needs to continue work on replacement of older transformers and other generation/transmission equipment that uses PCBs to meet federal environmental regulations for abolition by December 2025 of all technology in Canada that uses or produces PCBs.
The municipal corporation has discussed loan financing to help with the costs for the plan. It now asks council for either approval to see a financing loan or for the township to provide funding aid through its municipal budget.
Council voted to add Hydro 2000’s financing request to its 2021 budget discussion.
