The Hawkesbury Fire Department has asked the Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office to review the scene of house fire on Prospect Street.

“The Fire Marshal’s Office has been called in,” said Fire Chief Daniel Gascon, adding that the provincial department has more expertise to help determine the exact cause of the fire that burned out a bungalow-style house on November 18.

The fire department received a 911 call from a passerby at about 6:30 p.m. about a fire at 438 Prospect Street. One of the two pumper trucks from the station along with the ladder truck and the rescue van responded to the call.

“The house was fully involved (on fire),” Chief Gascon said, regarding the situation report on the call. “The roof collapsed.”

Firefighters remained at the scene until about 12:30 a.m., extinguishing the fire and checking the scene for any hot spots.

There were no injuries. The homeowner vacated the premises after the fire began. There is no damage estimate available yet.

A preliminary review of the scence indicates the fire’s origin point might be on the back porch outside. Investigators from the Fire Marshal’s Office will examine the site to determine actual starting point and cause of the fire.
