Social distancing did not stop Vankleek Hill Collegiate Institute students from honouring a Canadian hero.

The walk looked a little different this year, taking place on the school track rather than through the town. Students wore masks and went out in small groups across 20-minute intervals to ensure the event was as safe as possible.

The students spent their second period on Thursday, October 8, taking part in the walk, helping to raise money along the way. Some healthy competition was also encouraged, as students were asked to dress in their Rebels or Warriors house colours so points could be tallied.

The socially distanced walk marked an important milestone in the Terry Fox story. The year 2020 has been the 40th year since his Marathon of Hope across Canada to raise money for cancer research.
