Mayor Assaly announced during the September 14 session of Hawkesbury council that she is sending a letter to Harley-Davidson Canada asking the company to reconsider its decision to cancel the dealership agreement it has with Goulet Motosports. “This (decision) would have a serious impact on our local businesses,” said Mayor Assaly.
Goulet Motosports owner Sophie Goulet announced August 27 through the business’s Facebook page that the local institution for motorcyclists in Hawkesbury and surrounding communities would close its doors October 31. The 41-year-old business is the local Harley-Davidson (HD) dealership, However, it seems the recent sales numbers for Harley-Davidson motorcycles and related equipment do not meet the new HD corporate sales standards.
Goulet Motosports has a long history of community involvement in Hawkesbury, including sponsoring the annual Hawkesbury Bike Fest and supporting various regional fundraising campaigns, including those that helped with new equipment projects for the Hawkesbury & District General Hospital.
