Owner Sophie Goulet posted a notice on the business’ Facebook page August 27, announcing the closure. Goulet Motosports has been a local institution for 41 years for motorcyclists in Hawkesbury and surrounding communities.
Goulet Motosports has been the local dealership for the Harley-Davidson line of motorcycles and related equipment and gear. In her FB post, Goulet noted the end of the business’ partnership with the Harley-Davidson company, though she added that decision was not because of the dealership’s performance.
Goulet further explained on her Facebook page that according to new standards established by the company, the population of our region is not large enough to justify a dealership in Hawkesbury” It’s strictly a question of not enough numbers of motorcycles sold in our region.”
Sophie Goulet took over the family business in 2001. During her time as owner/operator she launched the annual Hawkesbury Bike Fest, which took place over the Labour Day weekend, and brought in hundreds of motorcycle enthusiasts to enjoy live music, meeting fellow motorcycle riders and fans, and other activities. Local merchants in Hawkesbury’s downtown core benefitted from spinoff business attendees of the annual event.
Goulet Motosports was also involved in various regional fundraising campaigns, including support projects for the Hawkesbury & District General Hospital.
