Dr. Paul Roumeliotis, chief medical officer for the Eastern Ontario Health Unit (EOHU), confirmed during his August 24 media teleconference a case of COVID-19 for the Auberge Plein Soleil in the Village of Alfred. The EOHU declared official outbreak status for the seniors’ retirement and assisted living facility August 22 after a staff member tested positive for COVID-19.
“None of the residents or other staff show any symptoms,” said Dr. Roumeliotis.
The infected employee was asymptomatic, meaning the individual displayed none of the symptoms of COVID-19. The person’s condition was determined through a routine testing the EOHU now schedules every two weeks for seniors’ facilities within its area.
The EOHU had all residents and the rest of the staff tested on August 23. Test results are expected within a couple days.
The infected staff member is in self-isolation and the retirement home under 14-day quarantine. If all test results of residents and other staff prove negative and no one else displays symptoms of COVID-19 by the end of the 14-day quarantine then the EOHU will declare the outbreak situation resolved.
Alfred-Plantagenet Township was the location for the EOHU’s first official outbreak situation in a seniors’ facility at the Pinecrest Nursing Home in Plantagenet in June.
