The OPP Marine Unit beached a pair of paddleboarders caught in possession of beer while floating along on their board on the Ottawa River June 23 near L’Orignal Park beach.
The two paddleboarders were not wearing personal floatation devices, and did not have either a signaling device with them or a buoyant line at the time. What they did have was some beer, which they were drinking when the police encountered them.
The two received tickets and a warning from police that open liquor is not allowed on any vessel, whether it is motorized or paddle-driven, and that canoeists or paddleboarders can be charged with being impaired while operating their vessel.
