The City of Clarence-Rockland put its water conservation policy into force effective June 19.
City officials are asking residents of Clarence-Rockland to reduce use of the municipal water system as much as possible to ensure that there is a sufficient supply under pressure in the reservoir for use by the fire department in case of an emergency.
As part of the water conservation order, there is a total ban now on mechanical watering of lawns and gardens. Home gardeners are encouraged to water their gardens by hand rather than use a sprinkler, and to do so during the early morning or early evening hours when the weather is cooler and plants can absorb the water from the ground quicker before it evaporates.
The city splash pads will continue to operate to provide a heat relief source for children and adults outside, but fewer of the pad’s aquatic structures will be working. The municipal decorative fountains are also shut off for the duration, and city staff will not be washing any of the municipal vehicles.
Residents can also help reduce demand on the municipal water system by limiting use of automatic dishwashers and washing machines, and not using water for non-essential needs like cleaning driveways or washing vehicles.
Russell Township
Water restriction rules went into effect in Russell Township June 22. Residents should reduce their water use as much as possible.
Homeowners are allowed to water their lawns and gardens but only on alternate days, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Residents with even-numbered street addresses water on even-numbered days of the month, while those with odd-numbered street addresses water on odd-numbered days.
All other mechanical watering activities are prohibited for the duration. The municipal website will have a notice when the water restriction ends.
The Nation
Outdoor water restrictions are still in force in Limoges, and an updated water conservation order was adopted for The Nation Municipality June 22 for the entire summer season.
The Nation residents are not allowed to use automatic and mechanical sprinklers for watering gardens or lawns from May 1 to September 30. Manual watering of gardens, trees, and shrubs is permitted.
Residents can do their watering on alternate days, between 7 and 10 p.m. People with even-numbered home addresses can do their watering on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. People with odd-numbered home addresses can do their watering on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.
The Limoges splash pad will continue to operate, but with reduced waters jets, and the hours of operation are limited to between noon and 6 pm.
No restrictions
There are no municipal water restrictions for East Hawkesbury Township as almost all homes are on well systems. Homeowners can apply their own water conservation measures suitable for their needs.
At present Champlain Township, Alfred-Plantagenet Township, the Municipality of Casselman and the Town of Hawkesbury have not yet posted any water conservation orders.
