Ontario’s air ambulance service was called in to the scene of a weekend motor vehicle accident on Highway 417, enar the Cornwall exit.

The Stormont-Dundas-Glengarry OPP detachment received a morning call June 7 about a single-vehicle accident on Highway 417, east of Casselman. The accident occurred under the overpass of Highway 138.

The 55-year-old driver of the vehicle was taken by air ambulance to hospital for treatment. The accident scene was closed off to traffic while officers from the OPP Traffic Collision Investigation Unit reviewed the site. The highway was reopened for traffic the following day.

An OPP incident brief states that preliminary investigation indicates that at about 7:37 a.m., June 7, a passenger vehicle going east on Highway 417 went off the road near an overpass. The vehicle hit one of the overpass pillars and laned in the ditch on the south side of the highway.

The reason why the vehicle went off the road is not known yet. The investigation continues.
