– Gregg Chamberlain

Russell village signs

Russell Township council approved a recommendation for the municipality’s contribution to the Russell Kin Club’s project for two Welcome to Russell Village signs. The township will provide $24,000 in the 2020 budget to cover survey and legal fees for the project and also provide solar lighting for the two signs. The Kin Club will fundraise the rest of the $94,650 total cost for the project. – Gregg Chamberlain

Cost-saving purchase

The United Counties of Prescott and Russell’s public works department expects to save money in the long run by purchasing a new front-end loader. The loader, from Nortrax Ltd., priced at $209,544, using money from the Machinery Reserve Fund, means the department no longer needs to budget $20,000 every winter season to rent a loader for snow removal work. The average working life span of a new loader is 10 years, but may be longer with careful maintenance .– Gregg Chamberlain
