Woman dead in Hawkesbury collision

A woman was pronounced dead after being hit by a car on November 12 in Hawkesbury.

The Hawkesbury detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are investigating an incident that occurred at 8:25 p.m. on November 12. OPP responded to a collision on McGill Street in Hawkesbury, where a female pedestrian was struck by a single vehicle. Melissa Girard, 27, was transported to hospital, where she was pronounced deceased. 

The driver was not hurt and is not facing charges, and their identity is being withheld for now to preserve privacy. McGill Street was closed between Spence Avenue and Country Road 17 for several hours but has since reopened. Hawkesbury OPP continue to investigate with the assistance of OPP Traffic Collision Investigators (TCI).
