AP council okays E-vote method

One member of township council hopes that there won’t be a repeat of the problems that plagued  the electronic voting (e-vote) setup during the 2018 municipal election.

“There were lots of complaints about that system,” said Councillor Ian Walker during a recent council review of e-voting methods.

Township council approved the municipality becoming part of a joint contract between seven of the eight communities in Prescott-Russell with Intelivote Systems for electronic voting service (E-voting) for the 2022 municipal election. Intelivote Systems provided the successful bid out of five companies that responded to a joint request for proposals.

The township’s cost for e-voting in the joint contract with Intelivote would be about $20,000. That cost is based on the number of residents eligible to vote recorded in the 2018 census.

The Intelivote system will provide township voters with the opportunity to cast their ballot by either phone or Internet.
