The Vankleek Hill Cougars had something to prove after losing their last two games, and they gave it their all to do it.
The Cougars broke their short losing streak on October 14 when they went up against the Westport Rideaus. They built up an early lead with two goals in the first period, and although the Rideaus tried to make a comeback with one goal in the second period, the Cougars matched it easily. They secured their win with two more uncontested goals in the third period, making the final score a 5-1 win for the Cougars.
The Cougars’ goals were scored by Mikael Bissonnette, Mathieu Belanger, Andy Lightle-Blais, Nathan Williams, and Zachary Sullivan, assisted by Joshua Desjardins, Maxime Laliberte, Malcolm Seguin, Garrett Cunning, Zachary Bigras, and Brendan Easterbrook.
Their next game on October 15 was much closer on the scoreboard. The South Grenville Rangers put up a good fight, matching the Cougars goal for goal as they each scored three in the first period, then two more in the second period. It all came down to the last-minute powerplay in the third period, when the Cougars managed one final goal to sneak ahead and secure victory 6-5.
The Cougars’ goals were scored by Alexandre Chenier, Desjardins, Cunning, and Belanger, assisted by Laliberte, Matheo Pierre-Mercier, Lightle-Blais, Sullivan, Laframboise, Williams, and Seguin.
Their next game is October 21 against the Morrisburg Lions in the Lions’ Den at the Morrisburg Arena.
