The Sugar Shack will be hosting a brunch on Sunday, March 26 at the Marionville Community Centre. The event starts at 11 a.m. and will serve food until 1 p.m., although people are welcome to stay as long as they like. Live music and face painting is included to delight families, and the bar will be open for anyone who wants to purchase a drink. Tickets are $20 for 12 years and older, $8 for kids five to eleven, and free for kids four and under.
In previous years, the Sugar Shack hosted a dinner event for the community, but after being absent for a few years they decided to rework the event to cater to a wider audience.
“We used to have a dinner at night, prior to COVID, but this year we decided to do the brunch. A group of volunteers in the community from different associations are pooling all their efforts together, and all the food will be homemade. It won’t be catered as we used to do in the past,” said Francois Marion, President of the Marionville Citizen’s Committee. “It’s an opportunity to get the community together. People have been telling us they prefer a daytime event rather than a nighttime dinner event, so the brunch has been a winning formula.”
The Community Centre will be able to sit 200 people, although Marion expects attendance to fluctuate over the duration of the event.
“There’s a lot of interest so far, I’ve been getting a lot of calls about the event. I expect more or less a full house based on the interest up to now. We’re going to have live entertainment, folk singing and accordion and guitar, kind of traditional Sugar Bush atmosphere.”
