Just before 9 p.m. Monday night, OPP announced on Twitter they had received reports of two young kids playing by the Castor River. Police were told that someone thought they saw a child go into the river.
OPP conducted an extensive search of the area between St-Joseph Road and Notre-Dame Street. No evidence of anyone falling into the river was found and there are no missing persons reported at this time.
Witnesses posted pictures on Facebook of the search taking place in a nearby cemetery, as well as boat operations taking place on the Castor River.
With March Break underway and kids spending more time outside, police want to remind everyone that ‘no ice is safe ice’ and to stay away from water courses. The warming temperatures can make for rapidly changing conditions on the river.
