October is right around the corner, and to get people into the Halloween spirit, Russell Township and the Kin Club of Russell are pleased to announce PumpKIN Fest. Join the community on October 30 for a day full of music, food, and exciting Halloween activities like pumpkin carving, scavenger hunts, and of course, a Halloween costume parade.
“PumpKIN Fest is about family, fun, and community,” said organizer Eric Greer. “It’s giving members of our Township the opportunity to support local development while making great memories and connecting.”
PumpKIN Fest is a new event created to help residents feel at home and upbeat in their community again. After being struck sick and stuck inside for over three years now, Greer hopes that PumpKIN Fest will prove to be just what the doctor ordered to raise spirits.
“The pandemic took a lot from our sense of unity, so we want to change that by creating opportunities for people to counteract that,” said Greer. “And a festival that’s also a fundraiser for the splash pads is a great way to do that.”
Greer hopes that PumpKIN Fest will become an annual event in the Township, celebrating Halloween and the resilience of the residents. He said that he and his partner started PumpKIN Fest because Halloween is Greer’s favorite holiday, but they didn’t find any large, community-spanning events for the season. He wanted to lead by example and show that the township can support greater community activities.
PumpKIN Fest will run from noon to 5 p.m. on October 30 in Yahoo Park, at 8-22 Marcel Street in Embrun. Tickets are $5 ahead of time or $8 at the gate, and children 13 and under are free. There’s also a special bonus offer; the first 60 people to donate $20 or more will receive a thank-you gift bag filled with sponsor goodies, and have a pumpkin reserved for them in the carving/painting event.
