In a challenge launched by United Way East Ontario, restaurants in the region are creating their own burgers to raise donations to help vulnerable people in the community.

From Orléans to Stittsville and St-Albert, this month brings out the creativity of 16 local restaurants.

“The best part is that we have the opportunity to support local businesses while involving them in our mission to help the most vulnerable in our communities,” said Lorena Costa, Senior Manager of Strategic Partnerships at United Way East Ontario.

This year, Fromagerie St-Albert has added their VRAI Double Cheeseburger to their menu for the first time. It features two beef patties topped with a secret sauce, served on a bun with melted St-Albert cheese, lettuce, red onions, and tomatoes. A vegetarian option is also available.

“Each burger supports an important cause, and participating in Novemburger just makes sense. It allows us to keep our promise of supporting local businesses while making a regional difference,” said Simon Bergeron, Digital Strategy Lead at Fromagerie St-Albert.

The event started on November 1 and will end on November 30. For every burger purchased, two dollars will be donated to United Way.

“We know that the toughest issues facing our society today—such as poverty and homelessness, mental health and addiction, social isolation, and exclusion—are closely linked, and it’s impossible to address one without addressing the others,” said Mike Vlasveld, Senior Manager of Public Relations at United Way East Ontario.

Restaurants in Eastern Ontario are competing for the “Best Novemburger of the Year” award, determined by public votes.

A printable e-passport and an interactive map to find all Novemburger locations are available on United Way’s website.
