The United Counties of Prescott and Russell (UCPR) are inviting residents to submit nominations for the 10th edition of the Prescott and Russell JP St. Pierre Award.
The JP St. Pierre Award is given to residents of the region who stand out for their commitment and contributions to their community. It aims to celebrate the contributions of individuals in many areas of life within the UCPR, such as arts and culture, business, professions, charitable work, health, education, public service, media and communications, sports and recreation, agriculture, the environment, or other areas that support the well-being of residents.
The award was created in memory of Jean-Paul St. Pierre, who passed away in 2014. St. Pierre, a resident of the region for more than 40 years, served as Mayor of the Township of Russell, Warden of the UCPR, municipal councillor, and Chair of the Eastern Ontario Wardens’ Caucus.
“We are lucky to live in a region where many residents contribute to the vitality and quality of life of our communities,” stated Normand Riopel, Warden of the UCPR. “They do this out of the goodness of their hearts, with no expectations of anything in return. However, with the JP St. Pierre Award, we have an opportunity to annually recognize up to two of those individuals for their outstanding commitment. I invite residents to nominate people who have set themselves apart through their community actions. I look forward to honouring them during the UCPR Warden’s Banquet in November.”
Any individual residing in the UCPR who has contributed to the community is eligible for this award. The UCPR includes the municipalities of East Hawkesbury, Hawkesbury, Champlain, Alfred and Plantagenet, The Nation, Casselman, Russell, and Clarence-Rockland.
