A fatal collision on Highway 417 near Limoges resulted in two dead and shut down the highway for nearly 10 hours on Tuesday. 

Just before 3 p.m. Tuesday, April 30, the Russell County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) with the Prescott-Russell Emergency Medical Services (EMS), Russell Township Fire Services, The Nation Fire Department and the OPP’s Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement Team responded to a collision on the westbound lanes of Highway 417. 

The initial information received indicated that a collision occurred between a transport truck and a car. Both vehicles were engulfed in flames. 

Witnesses attempted to remove the occupants from the car but were unable to, due to the intensity of the flames and smoke. 

The two occupants of the car were pronounced deceased at the scene. The transport driver was not hurt. 

The westbound Highway 417 remained closed for several hours, reopening shortly after 1:30 a.m. the next day, May 1. 

The Russell County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is continuing to investigate the fatal collision and are working with the Office of the Chief Coroner to confirm the identity of the deceased individuals.   

The OPP asks if residents have relevant dashcam video or witnessed the collision, and has not yet spoken with police, should contact Russell County OPP at 1-888-31-11-22 and refer to incident number E240532150.
