As of April 22, 2024, Russel’s half-load restrictions will be lifted.

Municipalities install half-load restrictions for the spring thawing season. This affects vehicles with loads that are heavier than 5,000 kilograms or five tonnes per axle.

To ensure drivers know which roads they have access to, signs are installed on all municipal roads where these weight restrictions apply. Road and weather conditions are routinely reviewed to determine the end date of weight restrictions.

Emergency vehicles are exempt from these restrictions.

The municipality installs these temporary restrictions on heavy weight vehicles help avoid damage roads during the spring season where frozen roads start to thaw, water soaks into the gravel, and the pavement temporarily loses the strength needed to support heavy-weight load vehicles.

For more information, residents can contact the Infrastructure Department of Russell.

The city of Clarence-Rockland has lifted their load restrictions as of April 8.
