It was an uneventful weekend for the Rockland Nationals and their fans as the team was looking to snap a two-game losing streak.
After being shut out on home ice on Friday, Feb. 23 by the Navan Grads – which snapped Rockland’s three-game winning streak – the Nationals were hoping to shake off the 4-0 loss with a visit to Renfrew to take on the Wolves the following night.
But on this night, it wasn’t meant to be.
Despite making it a close contest and showing a greater sense of urgency, Rockland lost to the Wolves by a score of 5-4. The Nats trailed 5-1 at one point, and were able to score three unanswered goals to bring them within one, thanks to Alex Kelloway, Anthony Hall, Kyle Leonard and Mathieu Fillion, but that’s all the visitors could muster, and the home team took the win.
Rockland hopes to get back in the win column with a busy week ahead. They kick off the week with road games against the Carleton Place Canadians on Tuesday, Feb. 27, and against the Ottawa Junior Senators on Wednesday, Feb. 28, before returning home for a two game homestand on Friday, March 1, against the Kemptville 73’s and on Sunday, March 3, versus the Brockville Braves.
The Nats currently sit third in the Central Canadian Hockey League’s Yzerman division heading into this week’s games.
