At the most recent board meeting, CDSBEO trustees discussed the Summer Learning and FACE programs.
Trustees at the Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario (CDSBEO) took time at the latest board meeting on August 29 to discuss two board initiatives to support students.
The Friends and Advocates of Catholic Education (FACE) program works to celebrate the value and importance of Catholic education in Ontario. According to an update presented by project manager Carole Allen, the program is doing well in reaching out to various group to promote and protect Catholic education in the province.
Also presented was an update on the Summer Learning Program, which delivers high-quality instruction in language, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), and coding since the program’s inception 13 years ago. The program was hosted at 12 school sites for three weeks in July, with over 400 students from Kindergarten to grade 6 registered for in-person sessions. A further 1,121 students registered for online courses offered through the board. A Skilled Trades Summer Camp for Young Women in grades 6, 7 and 8 was also offered where students learned about Agriculture, Horticulture, Welding, and Carpentry.
“We have certainly had a very busy and successful summer, and it’s wonderful to be able to offer so many summer learning opportunities to our students,” said Chair Sue Wilson.
