Wednesday night, April 19, at about 9:30 p.m., the Sûreté contacted the Hawkesbury OPP detachment about a possible crime scene in East Hawkesbury Township. The crime scene was considered related to a serious assault case that the Québec police force was investigating.

OPP officers went to a residence in Chute-à-Blondeau and found two people dead. Police have now charged Gavin Chisholm, 22, of Chute-à-Blondeau with two counts of first-degree murder.

The joint investigation is still in the early stage. The two victims have now been identified as Sherri Buchanan, 50, and Darren Chisholm, 24.

The Hawkesbury OPP Crime Unit and the Sûreté are working together on the case under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch and in partnership with the Ontario Chief Coroner’s Office and the Centre of Forensic Sciences. The OPP Forensic Identification Services Unit is assisting.

A police notice to media states that « there is no risk to public safety » but residents are advised there will be « a heavy police presence » in the Chute-à-Blondeau area for the duration. An OPP mobile support unit van was set up April 20 in the 1900-block of Front Street in the village as part of the investigation.
