Wednesday night, April 19, at about 9:30 p.m., the Sûreté contacted the Hawkesbury OPP detachment about a possible crime scene in East Hawkesbury Township. The crime scene may be related to a serious assault case that the Québec police force is investigating.

OPP officers went to a residence in Chute-à-Blondeau and found two people dead. The Sûreté have arrested an individual in Les Cèdres, Québec, who may be connected to the two deaths in Chute-à-Blondeau.

The joint investigation is still in the early stage. Police are withholding release of the names of the deceased until their families are notified.

The Hawkesbury OPP Crime Unit and the Sûreté are working together on the case under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch and in partnership with the Ontario Chief Coroner’s Office and the Centre of Forensic Sciences. The OPP Forensic Identification Services Unit is assisting.

A police notice to media states that « there is no risk to public safety » but residents are advised there will be « a heavy police presence » in the Chute-à-Blondeau area for the duration. An OPP mobile support unit van is now set up in the 1900-block of Front Street in the village as part of the investigation.
