Speaking proactively with children about internet safety is the best thing parents can do, sas the OPP.

In support of International Safer Internet Day and in partnership with the Canadian Centre for Child Protection (CCCP), the OPP encourage families to speak up and call police to report victims of cyber crimes. It’s important for parents speak with their kids about their experiences online and potential safety concerns, such as cyberbullying and privacy.

The CCCP operates Cybertip.ca, Canada’s national tip line to report child sexual abuse and exploitation on the internet. The website provides age-appropriate internet safety resources for both kids and adults, and there are other prevention and intervention services available as well.

Anyone who knows a child in immediate danger or risk should call 911 or the local police.
