Zanth’s victory gives him the opportunity to carry out his first full mandate, having been appointed mayor in 2020 after the passing of former mayor Guy Desjardins.
“I ran because I wanted my own mandate and prove to people we are going to step it up,” said Zanth. “We’ve said it from the get go of this campaign, it’s going to be about building and prospering together.”
Zanth will be rejoined by many familiar faces around the council table. Kyle Cyr (Ward 1), Samuel Cardarelli (Ward 4), Diane Choinière (Ward 8) and André J. Lalonde (Ward 5) were all re-elected. Carl Grimard took Ward 3 via acclamation.
Newcomers Stéphane Fournier (Ward 2) and Simon-Olivier Péladeau-Houle (Ward 6) will also be joining city council after Cyr changed wards and Christian Simard chose not to run for council again.
Long-time councillor Michel Levert, running for his third term, lost out to the young Trevor Stewart for the Ward 7 seat.
