Beautiful beginning for Bourget market

«It surpassed all my expectations,» said Julianne Skarecky-Colwell during an interview following the October 15 event.

Skarecky-Colwell launched the community market project as a way to both highlight local and regional artisans, food producers, home-based businesses, artists, musicians, and community groups, and also provide an entertaining autumn event for her home village. Response from both participants in the market and families and individuals passing through has been very encouraging.

«One vendor told me i twas comparable to the Orléans community market,» said Skarecky-Colwell, «which was a high compliment. The live music was definitely a highlightl.»

Initial response from both vendors and the general public has encouraged Skarecky-Colwell to make plans for a monthly community market project for the village for next year. The Pavillion site on the Bourget section of the Prescott-Russell Recreational Trail will remain the market’s location during the spring, summer and autumn seasons. Skarecky-Colwell will look into a possible winter season location depending on the feedback she receives.

«The details still need working out,» she said, «but there is certainly an appetite for this»
