The Vankleek Hill Junior C Cougars started their season with two consecutive wins, with a 4-1 victory against the Westport Rideaus on opening weekend and a 5-4 win against the Morrisburg Lions on Sunday.

“It’s an excellent start.” said Franky Dopelhamer, Cougars head coach. “We just played two games. It was Morrisburg’s second game too. The season is still too young to determine where we are.”

Coach Dopelhamer has high expectations for the upcoming season. He hopes to see the team finish in the top four and win more than half of their games.

Dopelhamer said that the club’s expectations may change with the recruitment of new players. « We have some reinforcement so slowly our expectations will change and go up. »

The Cougars have acquired two players, Mikael Bissonnette and Joshua Desjardins, from the Gatineau Flames Junior AAA club. Mikael Bissonnette has already scored two goals in each of his first two games with the Cougars. Desjardins has yet to play a game with the club but will be on the ice for the Cougars’ first home game on Sunday, October 9 at the Robert Hartley Sports Complex at 7:30 p.m. against the Morrisburg Lions.

Admission will be free for the first game of the season thanks to sponsors Team Bougie and Total Telecom.
