Building up business key: Stéphane Fournier
Steve Fournier

Fournier is focused on ensuring businesses can come to and thrive in Clarence-Rockland, with an express interest in reducing the tax burden for residents. The reason for the heavy burden, he noted, is because residential property taxes make up a greater proportion of the municipality’s revenues in comparison to commercial property taxes.

“Usually it’s the opposite,” said Fournier. “Having a larger commercial presence in the city would assist residents in offsetting that.”

While inviting new businesses to the city is important, Fournier also wants to better represent current businesses at council and listen to their needs.

Fournier hopes his ability to build relationships and network will help create important ties between businesses and residents in Clarence-Rockland as the community continues to outgrow its reputation as a bedroom community.

“The population is obviously increasing rapidly,” said Fournier. “Now it’s time to catch up with the commercial side of things.”

On top of building up the business community, Fournier wants to implement some green initiatives, improving the municipality’s parks and green spaces and making them more accessible and inviting to all residents.

Fournier is one of two candidates running in Ward 2 for the municipal election to be held on October 24. All candidates and their contact information can be found on the Clarence-Rockland website. Voters are encouraged to visit VoterLookup.ca to confirm their registration status and update their information.
