Russell extends urban hen pilot

During its regular meeting on February 7, Russell Township council voted to extend the urban hen pilot project. Usually, hens are only allowed to be kept on Agricultural or Rural Residential-zoned property, but on September 8, 2021, the township implemented a pilot project to investigate the feasibility and impact of allowing residents to keep hens on urban property.

Great interest was shown in the project, but the results were inconclusive. Council voted to extend the pilot project’s deadline to September 8, 2023.
