Cougars on .500 pace

The Castors wasted no time lighting up the scoreboard in the first period, with Jaddus Savoie scoring the visiting team’s first goal assisted by Xavier Brunet and Jacob Servant scoring their second assisted by Alderic Denis within the first two minutes of the game.

The Cougars seemed to have low-to-no energy early on in the game, yet still managed to get back into the game. Jonathan Campbell scored Vankleek Hill’s first goal, beating Castors goalie Corey Camirand glove-side off of a beautiful cross-crease pass by Simon Levac to the cut visiting’s lead in half. A few minutes later, a face-off in the Castors defensive zone lead to a goal by Nathan Sauvé, who managed to deflect Zachary Bigras’ point shot to tie the game up.

The Castors started the period off on the right foot, with Denis and Servant getting back-to-back chances during a power-play, but Vankleek Hill goal-tender Frederick Durocher-Bourdon held his team down. But the Cougars’ goalie had a bit of bad luck a couple of minutes later when a point shot by Alderic Denis hit the backboards and bounced onto Durocher-Bourdon’s back and into the net to give the go-ahead goal to the visiting team.

The Cougars managed to get a couple of good scoring chances late in the third period, but the Castors did a great job controlling the clock and holding on to their lead to secure their 12th win of the season and inflicting their seventh loss to the Cougars.

Cougars bounce back against Lions

Thankfully for the Cougars, they bounced back on Sunday in Morrisburg as goalie Charlie Paré shutout the home team, leading Vankleek Hill to a 4-0 victory, their eighth of the season. Joshua Renaud scored two goals in the game, Nathan Sauvé notched a goal and an assist, and Carl Bédard, Justin Chaumont and Maxime Lalonde scored an assist each. The Cougars are still playing a game above .500 and are sitting in the fifth spot in the general standings, two points below the North Dundas Rockets and one point above the St-Isidore Eagles.
