Arena closed for season

Champlain Township announced the « tough decision” on Monday, the same day the region moved from “orange” to “red” on the province’s COVID-19 management scale. The change banned team sports, except for training, and capped the number of people at indoor recreation centres to 10.

In February, the council approved the reopening of the arena after the province-wide lockdown, and agreed to extend the ice pad until April 18, as the venue had been inaccessible for almost two months. However, the township decided to close the venue on Monday instead, due to both the rising number of COVID-19 cases in the region and the relatively short period of time left for the ice pads.

“We would like to thank each and every one of you for your full cooperation and understanding during this difficult and unpredictable season,” the township said in a statement. “We are blessed to have flexible and understanding residents and users. We look forward to seeing you again in the fall, hopefully under better conditions.”
