The Ontario government announced on Thursday that schools within four public health units, including the Eastern Ontario Health Unit (EOHU), would be permitted to reopen for in-person classes on February 1. All schools in the Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario, Upper Canada District School Board, Conseil des écoles publiques de l’Est de l’Ontario, and Conseil scolaire de district catholique de l’Est ontarien would resume in-person learning.

The province had previously declared schools would remain closed for in-person learning until the end of a 28 day stay at home order on February 10. More information is expected at a media briefing from EOHU Medical Officer of Health Dr. Paul Roumeliotis on Thursday afternoon,
