Early-morning accident closes highway near Alfred

Police and other emergency personnel were called out at about 6 a.m., Saturday, December 5, to the scene of an accident on County Road 17, a short distance west of the Montée Lajeunesse intersection on the western end of the Village of Alfred.

A preliminary report from the OPP confirms that a collision occurred involving a heavy transport truck and a car. At least one person was taken to hospital for treatment of serious injuries. A second person has non-life-threatening injuries and there is no report if that person was taken to hospital.

No other details are available at present. The OPP Traffic Collision Investigation Unit is now at the scene.

Roadblocks are set up where County Road 17 intersects with Boundary Road east of Plantagenet and Montée Lajeunesse in Alfred. All traffic is being detoured at those points while investigators are on the scene.
