The recovery affects one lot number of the 12 ounce gel hand wash bottles. They had been sold at Walmart and Home Depot since mid-October.

In a statement, Method said all other products from the company, including “sweet water” refills, were unaffected and could continue to be used. It said the lot number was recovered due to the discovery of the bacterium pseudomonas bacteria, from which there was a risk of infection for immune-compromised individuals.

“While this bacterium rarely causes harm to healthy individuals, there is a risk of infection for individuals with a compromised immune system,” the statement said. “We take any risk very seriously, so we’re voluntarily recovering these bottles from retailers and consumers.”
