The Hawkesbury long-term care home has recorded its first case of COVID-19.

The United Counties of Prescott and Russell first learned of the case on Friday, according to a media statement. The statement said the person was self-isolating and receiving the necessary treatment.

Other residents and staff members were being monitored for any symptoms of COVID-19. Staff and residents who may have been exposed, but haven’t yet shown symptoms, were self-isolating.

“This is a serious but not unanticipated turn of events,” the statement said. “Residence staff are prepared, and have implemented full outbreak protocols. Staff are taking every step to protect residents and staff from the effects of the disease and from further spread of infection, including the deployment of community paramedics.”
