Russell County OPP are investigating a fatal stabbing incident which occurred overnight July 23 in Rockland in the Lemays Circle neighbourhood.
Detective-Inspector Brad Collins, the officer in charge of the investigation, gave a brief summary of the situation through a videotaped interview on the OPP East Region’s Facebook and Twitter pages.
Det-Insp. Collins confirmed that one man is dead and another was taken to hospital with “non-life-threatening injuries”, and also assured residents that there is no risk of any other repercussions to the public from the incident.
OPP media liaison Bill Dickson also dismissed a rumour that the mandatory mask-wearing pandemic protection directive for Eastern Ontario was a factor in the stabbing incident.
“I can say that it had nothing to do with wearing or not wearing a mask at all,” Dickson said during a phone interview.
Police investigation of the incident continues. Anyone with information is asked to call the Russell County OPP detachment at 1-888-310-1122 or the CrimeStoppers confidential tips line at 1-800-222-8477.
