There is a testing centre now in Winchester for people who think they might have COVID-19.

The Eastern Ontario Health Unit (EOHU) opened its latest COVID-19 assessment site April 1 in Winchester at the Winchester Lions Club building.

“The aim of the assessment centre is to increase access to COVID-19 testing for EOHU area residents,” stated Dr. Paul Roumeliotis, EOHU chief medical health officer. “While reducing the strain on 911, EMS, and hospital emergency rooms so that they can focus on urgent care. It will also reduce the risk of spreading the virus in hospitals and doctors’ offices, helping us protect healthcare workers and other patients from COVID-19 infection.”

Anyone in the Winchester area or surrounding communities, who thinks they have symptoms of COVID-19, are asked to first go to the Ontario Health Ministry’s online self-assessment page at https://www.ontario.ca/page/2019-novel-coronavirus?utm_source=Google&utm_medium=CPC&utm_campaign=COVID-19  and answer the questions before they go to the assessment centre.

If their self-assessment response is positive, they should then call the provincial Telehealth at 1-866-797-0000 and talk to one of nurses or other healthcare professionals on duty to see if they need a referral to the assessment centre. Anyone with severe problems breathing should call 911 right away.
