Residents should be aware of some suspicious mail.

OPP in the Stormont-Dundas-Glengarry part of the Five Counties region have charged two people with mail fraud, and maybe also criminal harassment and impersonation, following an investigation of suspicious packages in some residents’ mail. There aren’t any similar incidents reported from OPP in Prescott-Russell, but residents in those two counties should also be aware of the fraud.

A man from South Glengarry Township in Ontario, and another from St-Lambert, Québec, both face several charges of criminal harassment. The Ontario man is also charged with obstruction of justice while the Québec man is also charged with forging documents and impersonating a peace officer.

Both were arrested October 10, as a result of SDG OPP investigation of a series of suspicious packages, which showed up in area mailboxes earlier in the year.

Some packages contained what appeared to be court documents, while others included what proved to be fake sexual assault/offender registry papers. Both accused men are scheduled for court appearances later in the year. SDG OPP investigation continues. Anyone in the Prescott-Russell region who may have received packages with suspicious documents in their mail is asked to contact their local OPP detachment or the SDG OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
