A sunny Saturday in Plantagenet and a lineup of cars and trucks at the Firefighter Car Wash.

Members of the Plantagenet Fire Hall team put on some of their work clothes to try and stay dry as they manned the hoses all day June 14 at the municipal works yard. The occasion was the first Plantagenet Firefighters Car Wash fundraiser for the Canadian Cancer Society.

“We picked a charity that everyone knows,” said Deputy Chief Stéphane Barbarie.

Local firefighters are no strangers where it concerns taking part in community events or helping out charities and non-profit groups. The Alfred Fire Hall will host its own fundraiser event later in the summer and the Wendover firefighters will set up their annual Boot Drive toll stations this year to collect donations for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

By the end of the day Saturday, with the last car driving away and after the hoses were drained and then rolled up, Plantagenet firefighters had raised about $1500 for the Cancer Society.
