A swift police response has led to the arrest of a suspect following a robbery at a bank on Concession Street in Russell Township.
At approximately 9:30 a.m on May 27, officers with the Russell County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a robbery in progress. By the time officers arrived on scene, the suspect had already fled. Thanks to detailed witness descriptions of both the suspect and the getaway vehicle, officers quickly launched a targeted search.
Shortly after the initial call, an officer located the suspect vehicle. According to police, the driver deliberately collided at low speed with the OPP cruiser before fleeing the scene. The pursuit continued until just before 10:30 a.m., when officers from the Hawkesbury Detachment intercepted and safely stopped the vehicle on Highway 417. The suspect was taken into custody without further incident.
Police have identified the accused as Jeffrey Quintal, 40, of Clarence-Rockland. He faces multiple charges, including robbery with violence, two counts of flight from a peace officer, and mischief under $5,000.
Quintal remains in custody. A bail hearing is scheduled to continue on May 29, 2025, before the Ontario Court of Justice in L’Orignal.
The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact the Russell County OPP.
