The Clarence-Rockland Public Library will transform into a hub for gaming enthusiasts as they come together for a day of fun-filled activities.

The Clarence-Rockland Board Gamers Network is hosting its annual RockCon event at the Rockland branch of the Clarence-Rockland Public Library on Saturday, March 22.

This free event runs from noon to 5 p.m., offering family-friendly entertainment and activities. After 5 p.m., the event becomes 19+ and continues until midnight.

“We have some great, fun things planned,” said Sascha Jacob Penner, a member of the Gamers Network. “We wanted to create an event for the community where people could meet others who share an interest in board games.”

The day will feature open gaming areas, allowing attendees to select games from a large gaming library, as well as a used game sale, demonstrations, and much more.

“There are so many games out there that people might not even know about,” said Abigail Hambly, another member of the Gamers Network, referring to the wide variety of board games available.

                                                                                                             Gamers Network Meets Every Thursday

The Clarence-Rockland Gamers Network Club meets weekly on Thursday evenings for game night. Gaming enthusiasts gather to play board games and potentially discover new ones they’ve been curious about but haven’t had the chance to try.

“My husband and I are into board games, and we kind of just stumbled on this group—it’s been really great,” said Hambly, who recently moved to Rockland from Bourget.

The group is free to join and open to anyone interested in learning and playing primarily modern board games.

“Think of newer games that have been appearing more frequently on store shelves—games that emphasize strategy, such as Settlers of Catan or Ticket to Ride—rather than the classic roll-and-move games like Monopoly or Trouble,” said Penner. “However, we play a wide range of games, from lighter ones like Skip-Bo, Codenames, and Timeline, to more complex titles like Troyes, Yokohama, and Terraforming Mars.”

The group strives to be inclusive, welcoming everyone from experienced gamers to those who simply want to learn new games and meet new people in the community.
