The Embrun Panthers suffered a loss against the Ottawa Junior Canadians on Friday, January 17, but bounced back with a win against the Athens Aeros on Sunday, January 19. 

At home against the Junior Canadians, both teams defended their nets fiercely, keeping the first period scoreless. In the second period, both teams managed to score two goals each. The Junior Canadians struck first, but Marc-Antoine Petrut (assisted by Yanick Blanchard) quickly equalized for the Panthers just three and a half minutes into the period. Four minutes later, Xavier Boulanger (assisted by Liam Murdoch and Petrut) gave the Panthers their second goal. However, the Junior Canadians tied the game less than a minute later. 

In the third period, Boulanger (Blanchard and Ryan Pomerleau) reclaimed the lead for the Panthers less than two minutes in, only for the Junior Canadians to tie it again. Cameron Grant (Blanchard and Justin Raymond) scored a fourth goal for the Panthers at 13:07, but the Junior Canadians responded once more, forcing the game into overtime. 

In the extra period, the Junior Canadians scored the only goal, handing the Panthers a 5-4 loss. 

Victory Against the Athens Aeros 

Shaking off Friday’s loss, the Panthers faced the Aeros and came out victorious with a 4-3 win. 

In the first period, the Aeros opened the scoring, but the Panthers tied the game with a goal by Jackson Hamelin (assisted by Ryan Pomerleau and Cameron Grant) at 19:45. 

Hamelin (Murdoch) struck again just 31 seconds into the second period. Ten minutes later, the Aeros tied the score, but the Panthers regained the lead with a goal by Murdoch (Simon Lemieux and Blanchard) at 16:12. 

The Aeros managed to tie the game again in the third period, sending the match into overtime, which ended scoreless. 

In the shootout, the Panthers secured the win on their third attempt, while the Aeros failed to score. 

Upcoming Games 

The Panthers remain in fourth place in the Martin Division with a record of 19-14-3-2, now trailing the Ottawa Junior Canadians by four points. 

Their next match is against the Arnprior Packers on Friday, January 24, followed by a game against the Glengarry Brigades on Saturday, January 25.
