The Hawkesbury detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested a 16-year-old from Montreal after recovering a stolen vehicle early Thursday morning.
Police said the incident began just after 5 a.m. on Nov. 28, when officers attempted to stop a vehicle traveling eastbound on Highway 417. The vehicle, which had been reported stolen, failed to stop for police. A tire deflation device was deployed successfully at mile marker 3, bringing the vehicle to a halt.
The driver, whose identity is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was arrested and now faces several charges under the Criminal Code of Canada and the Highway Traffic Act. The charges include possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, theft of a motor vehicle, flight from a peace officer, and driving without a licence.
No injuries were reported, and the investigation is ongoing.
